A small Gorge carriage clock by Henri Jacot. The eight-day duration movement strikes the hours and half-hours on a gong with a repeat button to the top allowing the hour to be struck at will. The silvered platform lever escapement is stamped to the underside with the makers serial number 12405. The backplate of the movement is stamped with the Henri Jacot trademark, a South African Grey parrot on a perch with the initials H.J. either side, along with the serial number 10229, whilst the inside of the plates are stamped with the Jacot oval poinçon showing the various exposition award dates; the last on this example being the silver medal awarded at the Paris Exposition of 1878. The white enamel dial has black Roman numerals, Arabic outer five-minute numerals and blued steel moon hands. The base and lower rim of the Gorge case are both stamped with a repeat of the serial number 10229, giving a date of manufacture of circa 1893.

Leigh Extence notes: For further details of Henri Jacot and his family see my 2013 Exhibition catalogue: Henri Jacot: An Exhibition of Carriage Clocks, available via the Extence website.
