This is a rare pair of hexagonal vases decorated with a very popular pattern known as Bengal Tiger, also known as Dragon in Compartments, and Kylin in Compartments. It is an exotic pattern originally made on 18th century Chinese export porcelains. Each vase is painted with panels showing mythical beasts issuing gilt foliage, alternating with the objects of good fortune. The bright greens, oranges, and yellows with the soft blues, create a striking pattern which was one of the most sought after designs in the 18th and 19th century.
