Pair of Chinese famille verte plates, Kangxi (1662-1722), decorated with a man on horseback and an attendant in the foreground in front of a fenced compound, with a vase of flowers and other objects on a table, the border decorated with precious objects
both with two shallow chips, one with two faint hairlines.
The scene is from the 'Romance of the Western Chamber' depicting the arrival of the student Zhang and his servant at the monastery, the symbols indicate his future as a successful scholar.
