Outstanding, early 19th Century mahogany ‘flat to the wall’ bow-front Stick Barometer; the well-crafted ogee pediment over finely engraved silvered brass register plates, signed by the maker, and bearing the classic Ramsden wrap-around solid state rack-and-pinion vernier mechanism. The well patinated figured mahogany trunk, inset with long Fahrenheit and Réaumur bow-fronted mercury thermometer, with original concealed offset cistern tube terminating within urn-shaped ebonised cistern cover.

Jesse Ramsden was undoubtedly one of the finest and most innovative of barometer makers, achieving international acclaim even in his lifetime. Berge, by dint of his position as Workshop Manager, prior to inheriting the business in 1800, on Ramsden’s death, had been effectively responsible for the firm’s output for a considerable time previously. Hence the seamless continuation of finest quality products
