Mantel clock in Louis XVI or Neo-Classical style in gilt bronze, on both sides Sevres white biscuit porcelain figures representing Cupid Teaching Love and Cupid Taught by Love. After the model made for the Sevres factory in 1794 by the Sculptor Louis Simon Boizot: "La Lesson de l'Amour and La Lesson à L'Amour''. The clockwork set in an octagonal case crowned with doves symbolising Love and on four double rams feet. Fine quality of the gilt bronzes and in good original condition.
Signed on the dial: 'E. Duval' and 'Suresne & Argenteuil' both villages now in the greater suburbs of Paris. The French clockmaker Duval was active, circa 1840-1850. The clock was made after a period Louis XVI 18th century model. The base adorned with a frieze of dancing putti and bronze ornaments on a black lacquered tole background.
Good Condition. Clockwork mechanic needs to be checked and cleaned by a clockmaker. We can take care of that at the cost that the clockmaker will charge us..
