Portrait miniature of a gentleman with lightly powdered hair and wearing a blue jacket, white waistcoat and white knotted cravat. This miniature is typical of Wright's style being strongly painted with a slight yellow tinge to the flesh colour.

Watercolour on ivory in an oval gold frame the reverse with a lozenge of plaited hair in a glass reserve.

John Wright c1760-1820. He worked in London from 1795-1819 from Gerrard Street, Leicester Square and Burlington Gardens. He exhibited at the Royal Academy 1795-1819 and Hoppner and Lawrence were amongst his circle of friends. Examples of his work can be seen in the V & A Museum, National Portrait Gallery and the British Museum.
