Highly grained and beautifully figured mahogany case with broken arch architectural pediment surmounted by a central ivory finial.

Bulbous cistern cover and reeded sides. Glazed door opening to a finely engraved and silvered register plate, weather graduations from 27 to 31 inches, original mercury thermometer and sliding vernier pointer. Original exposed mercury tube with bulb cistern. C.1800

‘Barometer makers and retailers’ by Edwin Banfield lists Henry Andrews as working in Royston from 1800-1830. There is also a William Henry Andrews listed (presumably his sin) as working as a clockmaker, barometer maker and watchmaker from Royston and then later in Market Hill, Royston from 1827-1845.
