Four seasons with a diameter of 20 cm unframed and 25 cm with frame of the painter Pietro Scalvini ( Brescia 1718 - 1792 .

Pietro Scalvini painter, decorator and great Brescian fresco painter.

The start of his artistic career seems to have to be placed in Bovegno with the frescoes of the sanctuary of San Bartolomeo and a canvas in the church of the Magno district.
Other youth works are placed by 1747, when he signs and dates the Adoration of the Cross with the saints Peter Regal and Giacomo della Marca for the church of San Giuseppe.

Considered to be the most gifted among the Brescian frescoes of his time, Pietro Scalvini was at the school of Ferdinando Del Cairo, from whom he learned that version of fragile beauty and a little mannered for which the faces and bodies of his figures have the scent of a delicate feminine youth and expressions are softened into tender subtended.

In these four tasty, oil on table round, allegories of the seasons with original frames impersonated by an old man who warms up at the fire with a bowl and a glass of wine (winter), by a young woman with only a veil on the naked body, kneeling in profile in front of a vase of flowers with a floral hairstyle in the hair (Spring), from a woman with a naked bust with a crown of ears on the head, crouched on the ground with a sickle on the left and a bundle of wheat on the right (Summer) and a young man with on the head a wreath of grape vines that lifts a bunch from a vat (Autumn) can be detected the grafting of various stimuli of Lombard, Venetian and Emilian art, but his stylistic and pictorial language is clearly Lombard in particular from the mid-18th century in Brescia.

In Brescia Pietro Scalvini is considered a great painter, very skilled in figurative foreshortenings also thanks to his abilities as a fresco painter and as can be seen from these four rounds where his love for quadrature triumphs with a preference for the rocaille motif and a full adherence to the baroque.

These four rounds are very likely the result of an 'escape' from his work, as if they were an impromptu homage to a noble family in the pauses of work of greater commitment dedicated to it.
