This is a particularly fine repeating carriage clock of slightly larger size made by Richard and Co (France ) during the last quarter of the 19th Century.
Richard and Company are recorded in Allix, Charles and Bonnert, Peter CARRIAGE CLOCKS Their history and development as being the London branch of the French firm Richard et Cie (founded in Paris in 1848) which was set up in 1857. By 1867 the branch was located at 24 Cannon Street and signed clocks in English. Richard et Cie were prolific makers of better quality carriage clocks as well as other types of decorative mantel clock who received an Honourable Mention in the 1889 Paris Exposition.
The complicated case has corinthium capped spiral twist columns on all corners and a similar section to the centre handle. The silvered dial is signed by the retailer ,Sharman D Neil of Belfast , and surrounded by a beautifully pierced and chased gilded brass masking which is similarly repeated on the sides which are unusually fitted with curved bow front glass.
​ The 8 day duration French movement and is of typically high quality and strikes the hours and half hours on a coiled gong with a push repeat facility . It bears the manufactures trade mark on the back plate and the original silvered lever platform escapement is present.
​The clock functions perfectly and is supplied with winding key and crank.
The overall condition is excellent and should delight the most discerning buyer.
The images should show prospective buyers all they need to see but a personal inspection is very welcome as this item is actually nicer in real life than the images depict.
