This fine three piece clock set was made in the late 19th Century, and enhanced more recently with a rich lapis lazuli veneer. Designed in the timeless Neoclassical style, the set is a splendid example of an antique piece which can be placed in either a traditional or contemporary interior setting.
The set comprises a central clock and a pair of flanking five-light candelabra. The central clock is formed as four columns on a plinth, supporting a clock case with an urn above. The plinth base is set on gilt bronze toupie feet and features beading around its edge and a central urn, which sits below the clock's pendulum. The columns, sitting atop the plinth, are mounted in gilt bronze with hanging laurel garlands and scrolling foliage. Above, the central gilt bronze clock case takes the shape of a drum, and contains the enamel clock face, which features an Arabic-numeral design and marks for the clock's original retailer, Bernard-Lebel in Fougeres, Brittany.
The pair of flanking candelabra are similarly decorated with a lapis lazuli veneer, enhanced with fine gilt bronze mounts. Each is formed with five lights emerging from gilt bronze branches, supported on a lapis lazuli column, all set on a square-form stepped plinth base with toupie feet.
Clock: height 64cm, width 37.5cm, depth 14cm
Candelabra: height 59cm, width 24cm, depth 23cm
