This pair of candlesticks were designed by James Wyatt and have his distinctive brand of elegant classism, where tension between polished fluted surfaces and intricate bands of ornament are exploited to the full.
These candlesticks produced in the first year of the Birmingham assay office show how well Wyatt understood classical reporter. The slender forms remain one of the icons of English neo-classicism.
