A very rare and unusual George III satinwood music stand, the octagonal cross-banded and hinged telescopic ratcheted top inlaid with boxwood and ebony stringing, the lower side with concealed music support, and each side fitted with concealed pivotal supports, on a baluster stem inlaid with purpleheart stringing, on downswept tripod legs similarly inlaid, and terminating in ebonised paw feet.

Although a firm attribution of this charming and rare music stand remains elusive, the high quality of construction and finish relates to the work of some of the leading cabinet-makers of the day. In particular, the use of the finest quality satinwood with ebony stringing echoes the work of Thomas Chippendale Junior at Stourhead and also that of the esteemed firm of Gillows of London & Lancaster.
