The shaped top in fiddleback sycamore with concave and convex front with projecting corners. The central motif with ribbons entwined with foliage, bordered by a running Greek key design and cross-banded in purpleheart. The three doors to the front similarly inlaid with marquetry panels of flowers tied with bows and ribbons opening to reveal an arrangement of six draws with gilt brass handles. Two concave sides flanked by panels of tapering husks with a central gilt brass carrying handle. The cabriole legs with further husks, terminating in gilt brass mounts.
A very similar commode is in the collection of English Heritage at Kenwood House, Hampstead. The maker of this commode is not currently known. Although clearly of British workmanship, it has marked influences from examples from the continent. The overall shaping and geometrical inlay is very similar to an example by Christopher Furlohg, in the Lever Collection.
