A fine and imposing early 19th Century French Mantel Clock, having 8-day strike movement, by ‘Mugnier HR. Du Roi,’ contained in ormolu mounted sienna marble case, surmounted by a well cast model of ‘Crouching Venus.’
(One spring dates 1831.)
This particular Venus is after Antoine Coysevox’s model, where Venus is sat upon a tortoise. Coysevox’s original was made in 1686 for the Chateau de Marly.
