Biographical note:
Pietro Sassi (Alessandria, 18 July 1834 - Rome, 30 December 1905) was an Italian painter and watercolourist.
Painter of landscapes, both rural and citizens - with figures and in the presence of ancient architecture - and also of genre scenes, Pietro Sassi from Alessandria moved to Rome and traveled to Italy (Tirolo, Venice, Lago Maggiore, Roman Campagna), in look for cues for his paintings and his watercolors. He also went to Olevano Romano, a village that became a destination for artists, especially foreigners, who loved to take the landscape back to life.
His canvas Sponde del Lago di Garda in Tirolo was exhibited at the National Fine Arts Exhibition in Turin, in 1880, [1] which proved to be a springboard for many artists; two other paintings entitled Paesaggio and Simile were exhibited at the 1881 National Exhibition in Milan.
In 1883, in Rome, he presented Temporale at sea and North Sea and other works such as Bosco di Querce in the Roman Apennines and Arch of Septimius Severus at the Roman Forum. It was still present in 1884 at the Turin Exposition and in 1887 exhibited at the Venice Biennale fresh grapes, dried grapes and A forest. Cesare Tallone was one of his students.
